How Powerstar Works

Voltage optimisation technology has been utilised for at least 100 years. References for this technology in the glass industry date back to 1906. The biggest power optimisation study was carried out by Intel Corporation in 1997. They found that an 8.9% reduction in voltage on their microprocessors achieved a reduction of 20% in the power consumption. The Powerstar voltage optimisation system shows similar results.

Electricity suppliers must provide a voltage which is 230V +10%/-6% (216V to 253V). Therefore 253V is the base starting voltage for most suppliers to ensure compliance and minimise transmission losses. As the majority of electrical equipment is designed to run at 220V, reducing the voltage by only 5% can result in power savings of 10%.

The Powerstar, the market leader in voltage optimisation, achieves this by using a uniquely designed and patented triple wound transformer with an efficiency of 99.91% to enable a reduction in voltage to suit site requirements. By accurately controlling the incoming voltage this ensures that it maximises energy savings for a specific voltage reduction without compromising the supply.
